Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Here are some key pieces of information you will need:

Class teacher: Mrs Clarkson
Class teaching assistant: Ms Patel
HLTA: Ms Patel (every afternoon)

You can talk to any class adult if you have any concerns, worries or questions.

PE:

This half term, PE in Year 5 is on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit. This includes no jewellery please.

Reading:

Once completed, reading books can be changed at anytime but we do encourage children to change their book every Friday. Reading records must be signed. Please try to encourage children to read as much as possible at home.

Homework:

Each Tuesday, the children will be given their Maths or Reading CGP homework booklet. In school, Mrs Clarkson will ask them to put a date next to the new piece of homework and expect for it to be back the following Tuesday.

Each half term Year 5 are given a homework menu. They can choose the activities on this homework menu to complete to be in with the chance of winning the Homework Champion prize!

Your child also has access to Oxford Reading buddies, Timestable Rockstars and Purple mash. If you would like a copy of your child's passwords, please speak with the class teacher.

Spellings:

Spelling tests are on a Friday. Children will receive their new spellings each Friday to practise throughout the week. There are spare ones in class if they lose theirs.

We have had a very busy week in Year 5. In our Reading lessons, we have been organising statements of fact and opinion. In Writing lessons, we have been learning how to use parenthesis (to add extra detail) in our writing. We are really excited to begin writing our biographies about our friends!

We have been reading poetry and focusing on using expression, intonation and changing the volume of our voices.

 Happy Diwali!

Year 5 have been learning all about the celebration of Diwali so we could put on a special assembly for our grown ups.

We have also made some beautiful rangoli suncatchers to take home and display in our windows.

We hope that everyone who celebrates this wonderful festival has a fantastic time!
